I had a really good weekend, all things considered. If I went into details about it you probably a, wouldn't believe me, and b, if you did you would want to know why I would consider that good, but it just was. I feel better than I have in a long time, despite everything.
I even got some XBox time in with Stella and her new friend, who seems better at the game than either of us. That isn't really saying much for me, but Stella is kind of awesome. *hugs*
For those CU students @ Boulder who follow my blog -- and I know there are some of you, I view my stats and quite a few redirect from Facebook! -- this is the last week to sign up for the blood drive. To sign up you can contact Kaylee of Delta Delta Delta or Sara in Kappa Kappa Gamma. This blood drive is an annual event organized by the Panhellic Conference at CU. They are looking to break last year's record of 257 donors, and I believe at last look they were about twenty short. There's still a week to sign up, tell your family, tell your friends, tell your co-workers. Donating blood takes not long at all and is important for hospitals in the area to be able to save lives.
In the wider scope of things, if you remember from my (rather vitriolic, and I'm sorry for that) entry of
January 31st, I spoke of a non-traditional preacher by the name of Hannah James who was getting some press coverage for marrying gay couples in Oregon in the face of the state's ban thereof. I got a lot of nasty e-mails myself for that, and maybe it was merited. I said a few things that looking back, may have been unnecessarily harsh but my sentiments remain.
She's at it again, the
Sacramento Bee ran a fairly balanced article on her work in their metro area. Now, this time, let me preface what I'm going to say with a few remarks: gay marriage is awesome. I am one of the biggest honking liberals you could hope to meet, and it's not that I am against.
I am against her use of the Word of God in the way that she is using it. She takes away from it, she ignores it, she tailors it to her use. But Aster, don't all of the denominations do that, you ask? Yes they do. But Rev. James is not affiliated with any church. I have not been able to find much on her education, any article or news interview where she appears, whenever it comes up she glosses over it. I question if she has ever been to seminary, and I have never seen or heard about so much as an undergrad institution. The Bible teaches that all authority comes from God (Romans 13:1-2), but clearly this does not mean that all men who hold power and authority over others do it in the best way.
Men are imperfect, and you should always be mindful of that. The New Testament speaks repeatedly of false prophets and false teachers, "many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many." (Matthew 24:5) This has nothing to do about politics, God doesn't care about the politics of men. This has everything to do with skewing the Word to take people and make them believe they must rely on an earthly authority for their entrance into the kingdom of Heaven when you DON'T. Your salvation does not lie with anyone but YOU.
And now I'm going to lay down before I have to run to class.
